We wanted to share this article with you today about free water available in Austin.
Posted: / Updated:
AUSTIN (KXAN) — On Sunday, the City of Austin is opening 10 water distribution sites — all intended for area residents who are most vulnerable and who can’t purchase or boil water.
Pick ups will include one case of free water while supplies last. Residents who are driving should have their trunks open or have doors unlocked so water can be placed inside. Guests who are on foot should bring a cart or carrier large enough for one case of water.
Distribution begins at 11 a.m. at:
- Nelson Field, 7105 Berkman Drive
- Onion Creek Soccer Complex, 5600 E. William Cannon Drive
- Roy G. Guerrero Park, 400 Grove Boulevard
- ACC Highland Mall parking lot, E. Highland Mall Boulevard
- Garrison Park, 6001 Menchaca Road
- Lakeline Station, 13625 Lyndhurst Boulevard
- Walnut Creek Park, 12138 N. Lamar Boulevard
- Zilker Park, 2301 Barton Springs Road
- Anderson High School, 8403 Mesa Drive
Additionally, water distribution will be held at 11 a.m. at Austin Community College’s Pinnacle Campus located at 7748 Highway 290 West.
Across Austin and the surrounding areas, several other organizations and individuals have organized free water distribution events.
As of Saturday night, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality reports more than 14 million Texans are under a boil water notice.
Austin Water reported it has 60 million gallons of water in storage. But the storage needs to be stocked with 100 million gallons, the City says.
Winter Storm Update: 2/21/21 8:14 pm CST
We want to provide an update in regard to water. At this time, the property has limited access from the city of Austin. We currently have water hose stations available and pool water that can be used for flushing toilets. The locations for the water stations are currently being worked on. The buildings we are focusing on are:
2, 3, 6, 7, and 8 at Windsor Lantana Hills
Now that the weather is warmer, you no longer need to drip your faucets. We encourage you to turn off all faucets, to avoid high pressure to our water pipes for when water is restored.
Tomorrow, our plumbing and restoration contractors will be back on property to continue repairs for our community.
We know this time has been difficult and we appreciate that neighbors are helping neighbors. Here is the link we sent this morning for locations to receive free water - https://www.fox7austin.com/news/city-of-austin-to-distribute-free-water-at-10-sites-across-city.
We will continue to update our residents as we receive additional information.
Winter Storm Update 2/20/2112:15pm
We know this time has been difficult, and we love to see how neighbors are helping each other get through it. To provide an update on repairs, today, our plumbing contractor is onsite to complete repairs to broken pipes. We are hopeful that the pipes will no longer be frozen and repairs can be completed today. Due to the number of repairs, this may extend into tomorrow. Once repairs have been completed, the glue used to repair the pipes will need to dry for 36 hours. At this time we are unable to set up the water stations due to frozen pipes, we will update you as we have more information on if these will be available today. The Lantana pool water is available now for water for flushing toilets. Weather conditions on property remain icy and we recommend using extreme caution and weather appropriate footwear when walking through the community.
We are in this together,
Your Windsor Lantana Team
Winter Storm Update: Water Supply 2/19/2021 1:16pm CST
We wanted to provide you with another update regarding the status of restoring water supply to the community. Our plumbing contractor is onsite today to do inspections, assess leaks and begin the repair process. Given the extent of leaks that we are experiencing, we do not anticipate restoring water to the community this weekend.
Please be cautious when walking though the community as icicles may fall once they begin to melt. We recommend relocating any vehicles that are parked under an icicle to prevent potential damage.
Currently our water stations are frozen. The Oak Hill pool will be available daily from 9am-4pm if you need water to fill your toilet tank.
Email and text updates will be sent as we progress through the process. We appreciate your patience as we work to restore the water supply to the community.
